Stop Developement of Grand Marais Creek/Marsh Area!
Dear EBCC Readers and Supporters,
I appeared with the support of several people at the 2nd reading of By-Law 195 on March 17th, 2010. It appears the Planning Board are in a hurry to push this by-law through. I was disappointed to see that the land they were amending zoning for did not provide any information on Grand Marais Creek or the Riparian Zone surrounding the creek to the Planning Board members who were voting on this issue. It was only after my presentation that they learned of the existence of a creek on the property. This is crucial information, and would completely change the requirements of development around the area. It is flood prone land, and is very low elevation which would be difficult to build on without endangering the health of the creek, Grand Marais Marsh, drinking water aquifers and the wildlife that presently inhabit the area. We ask you to simply edit the form letter provided to write your objection to Selkirk and District Area Planning. The address is there, and the information is all there. We are sending this request to all supporters, and if you know other people that are against such developing of wetland areas, please forward this email to them. The letter must be mailed before April 2nd to be postmarked in time to be accepted. April 2 is a holiday, and therefore your letter would be disqualified as it would not be processed in time. We hope that you will cooperate to avoid the destruction of marsh and wetland like we have witnessed at the other end of Hwy 500 in the Beaconia Marsh. This is not acceptable. We hope that you will support this action. We appreciate any help that you can offer to protect the nature of this neighbourhood. If you have any questions, please email us. Thank you, Dave Crabb Chairman, Eastern Beaches Conservation Coalition Protecting nature and environment for the community to enjoy
