The old Hadfield property was sold a few years ago. This property is the old farmhouse at the start of the beach causeway road (officially known as Road 98N) where the artesian well is located. While not apparent from the road, the property has a very large waterfront. This winter the new owner commenced the dredging and excavation of the Riparian Zone, which is the shoreline and edge of the marsh area next to the land, for the approximately 1500 feet this property abuts the marsh. A quick written synopsis of what has been already excavated can be viewed at http://tinyurl.com, images can be viwed at Flickr. A zoning map of Beaconia posted by the RM on July 15, 2009 can be found at http://tinyurl.com.
The beach people are obviously appalled and concerned about the marsh development and assumed environmental damage. It is unfortunate that there appears to be a lingering anti-nudism / naturist sentiment percolating in the background. The lack of response from the RM of St. Clements to inquiries regarding the sudden closing of the causeway road on July 21 this past summer is just the most recent example. The naturist / nudism issue last came to the forefront in 1998/1999. See http://members.shaw.ca for a collection of newspaper articles and http://tinyurl.com for a book quote.

Strength is in numbers and evidence of action. It is important that we take the high road and be persistent in politely demanding information until our concerns regarding Beaconia Beach have been adequately addressed.
